HEALTH WALK LED BY STONE RAMBLERS
Stone Festival has been invited to join the SBC Health Walk led by members of Stone Ramblers, this will be a short local walk lasting between 60 to 90 mins.
To take part be at the Canoe Club car park by 10.45 am on Tuesday 6th June or for more information contact Pam Bradley 01785 811227.
The Ramblers are already involved with the Festival and will be having a stall on Westbridge Park where you can talk to them about their full range of activities, but in advance of that – why not come along and try a walk.
SPONSORED DOG WALK
The annual Sponsored Dog Walk will follow the usual format, setting off from Westbridge Park on a dog (and hopefully human) friendly route to raise funds for this year's nominated animal charity.
This year we are raising money to help Assistance Dogs UK which is a coalition of seven assistance dog charities. Over 7,000 disabled people in the UK rely on an assistance dog to help with practical tasks - offering emotional support and independence.
TWO WHEEL TUESDAY
Two Wheel Tuesday has grown into one of the highlights of the Festival, with more activities being added every year.
2016 was our biggest event to date, with enthusiastic support from Stone & District Motorcycle Club and Stone Scooter Club.
For 2017 we’d like to extend an invitation to any individual or group who is interested in motorbikes, scooters or cycling to join us on Westbridge Park in Stone on the evening of Tuesday 6th June from 6:30pm onwards.
New to this event this year is the running of a safe Round Westbridge Park cycling course.
A great reason for all the family to get their bikes out and let Mum and Dad join the kids in a mini “cyclo cross” around the Park.
We will also have Staffordshire County Council’s Bike Bus with us for the evening, along with musical entertainment and food and drinks (non alcoholic only - given the number of people who will be riding home afterwards!)
Free Dr Bike check-up for your bike at the festival from The Bike Bus.
Plan your next ride with maps for all areas of the county.
Get your bike security marked using BikeRegister.
Get all the advice you need from the experts on how to get cycling and keep cycling.
All services are provided for free.
Staffordshire County Council’s Bike Bus has been funded by Stone Festival to attend Two Wheel Tuesday.
Alongside Two Wheel Tuesday on June 6th, Stone Festival welcomes “Lymestone, Beech and then your pie" a mini-Sportive of 25 miles starting and finishing at the Lymestone Brewery on the same night.
This will run (or is that cycle?) from 7:00pm to 9:00pm with participants rewarded with a locally made pie and a half of beer at the Brewery at the end.
This event is being organised by RideStaffs and Lymestone Brewery and if you have been on any of their previous outings you will know that their riders are always well cared for.
And if you’re fairly fit but haven’t tried a Sportive before then this would be a great introduction.
With the event being much shorter than a weekend sportive, the organisers have a packed some tough climbs into the distance with the route taking in Oulton Heath, Moddershall and Rough Close in the first half then descending to Barlaston before climbing up to Beech, the high point of the route.
The route will be signed on the day and riders entering will be able to download the route to GPS devices too. Riders thinking of entering should be certain they’re capable of riding at an average speed of 12-13mph over hilly terrain.
Keep an eye on ridestaffs.co.uk and their Facebook and Twitter pages for more details as they’re announced and to find out how to book up in advance (please note that you must pre-book, it won’t be possible to enter on the day).
DID YOU KNOW? : A cyclosportive, or often simply sportive, is a short to long distance, organised, mass-participation cycling event.
The Italian term Gran Fondo is commonly used for these events in the United States, Australia and some other English-speaking countries.
